Massage is a demanding physical activity, especially when we are applying pressure. The growth of the massage profession in recent decades has been accompanied by an increase in work-induced problems. Practitioners can find themselves burning out with fatigue, strain in their hands, sore shoulders or back aches.
This 1-day workshop focuses on how to look after the precious tools of your trade – your hands and body – while effectively delivering pressure (when appropriate) without strain. This is particularly crucial if you have a small, slender or flexible build, but is important for everyone who wants to maintain their career with their hands and body in good shape.
The workshop is designed to alert you to the commonest causes of strain in massage, and to provide you with alternative ways of working that are easier and effective. The aim is to help you work smarter, not harder. It covers:
- how to protect your hands, particularly the most vulnerable parts – your thumbs and wrists (the areas that massage practitioners most often strain)
- using your body effectively to support the work of your hands – how to deliver power from your body in order to save your shoulders and back.
